Otevření gondoly Eiger Express v roce 2020 zkrátilo původní 90minutovou cestu k ledovci Eiger u lyžařského uzlu Kleine Scheidegg ve Wengenu o celých 47 minut. A nyní se můžete z Grindelwaldu do Wengenu dostat také druhou gondolou, která vás dopraví na vrchol Männlichen v srdci lyžařské oblasti Jungfrau za necelých 20 minut.

Při sjezdu strmými modrými a červenými sjezdovkami na vrcholu Oberjoch v Grindelwaldu klesám pod hranici lesa, křižuji tratě plné sáňkařů pod impozantními svahy Wetterhornu a projíždím vesnicemi provoněnými omamnou směsí vůní ze statků a dřevěného kouře.

Doprava v oblasti Grindelwald

Návštěvníci se mohou do Grindelwaldu z Interlakenu dopravit úzkorozchodnou železnicí Berner Oberlandbahn. Železnice, kterou nikdo nechtěl, byla postavena v roce 1891.

The most convenient and scenic way to reach Grindelwald is by using the SBB rail service. From Interlaken, the R61 runs every 30 minutes and takes about 35 minutes. From Geneva, take a train to Interlaken Ost and transfer to the R61. From Zurich, trains take around two hours though some routes require a transfer in Bern. Trains run frequently, about once per hour.

Traveling to Grindelwald from Interlaken with a car takes about thirty minutes. Simply drive towards Wilderswil and take a left at Gündlischwand. Grindelwald will be at the end of this road.

Grindelwald itself is an easily walkable village. Trails winding around the river, into the surrounding forests, and leading high into the mountains are also accessible directly from here. Additionally, there’s a network of cable cars, trains, local and mountain buses, and even zip lines.

Lanovka Schilthornbahn a Mürren

Ale od letošní zimy nabízí dlouho očekávané dokončení závratné kabinové lanovky Schilthornbahn 20XX rychlou cestu k prozkoumání 250 kilometrů propojených sjezdovek lyžařského regionu Jungfrau. Lanovka stoupá strmě podél útesů - se sklonem 160 %, což z ní činí nejstrmější kabinovou lanovku na světě - prochází vesnicí Mürren (nepřístupnou po silnici) a vysazuje lyžaře u otáčivé restaurace Piz Gloria.

Kromě toho, že cesty vzhůru budou téměř stejně vzrušující jako sjezdy dolů, výrazně zkrátí cestovní časy - lyžaře ze Stechelbergu v údolí vyveze do výšky 2 970 metrů za pouhých 22 minut.

Aktivity v Grindelwaldu

Grindelwald is one of Switzerland’s oldest ski resorts, well-known for its breathtaking Alpine scenery and its role as the gateway to the Jungfrau region. Visitors can enjoy a range of outdoor activities in the Swiss Alps, including skiing and snowboarding, hiking, mountaineering, snowshoeing, paragliding, and much more. It’s also home to the Big Pintenfritz, the longest toboggan run in Europe.

Grindelwald First can be visited throughout the year, no matter the season. However, it is best to visit in the summer months when temperatures are pleasant. For a more relaxed experience, visit on weekdays. Expect more foot traffic on weekends, especially in summer. It’s also a great idea to book activities in advance to avoid long wait times or sold-out slots.

Grindelwald First has attractions for all ages such as children’s play areas, hikes, and the Cliff Walk. However, some offerings, like the zip-lines and First Flyer, have height or age restrictions.

Historie a zajímavosti

Grindelwald was first referenced in 1146 as “Grindelwalt,” likely from Old High German words meaning ‘barrier’ and ‘forest.’ A local legend ties the name to two monks from Interlaken Monastery.

Grindelwald’s beauty has drawn attention from Hollywood as well. It’s been used in films, most notably as Alderaan in “Star Wars: Episode III” (2005) and Clint Eastwood’s “The Eiger Sanction” (1975).
